GoLeap pickThe big field on the edge of the Tibetan Colony where the tandems come down. Come late in the afternoon: gliders land every minute or two, and the sunset over the valley is the town's evening ritual.

The launch, at about 2,400 m and 14 km up the road from Bir. Taxis run up in the morning; the view down the Kangra valley is worth the ride even if you're not flying.

In the middle of the Tibetan Colony and the easiest monastery to walk to from the landing site. Quiet in the early morning.

A large monastery in the forest 8 to 9 km from Bir: 20 minutes by taxi or about two hours on foot along a quiet road. The main hall has a two-storey golden Maitreya.
A centre for the study of classical Indian wisdom in Bir Colony, with talks and courses. Check their calendar before you go.
